Nursing Your Kittens

When kittens are born, it is best that they are always beside their mother. Just like newborn babies, they need to be kept warm all the time to prevent hypothermia. They also need to be groomed because they aren't capable yet of taking care of themselves. Newborn kittens need their mother's milk in order to obtain nourishment. Usually it takes 4 to 5 weeks for them to be able to take solid foods. I noticed that cats also wean their kittens like human beings do. During this time, we can help intervene by introducing semi solid foods to the kitten. Some pet stores sell these kind of food, although we could always make our own and feed it to our pet. Either of which you prefer is fine as long as you can provide adequate nutrition without harming your kittens. Always remember that aspiration could be fatal so make sure you assess their readiness to intake solid to semi-solid food first.
